Launching Builds (and poe2.ninja)
2025-02-10Welcome to poe2.ninja!
You probably have not been to this site before, since it is rather new. This is the new sibling site of my existing Path of Exile site called poe.ninja that I have been building since 2016 with a strong focus on economy and build statistics. This site aims to take on the same role but focused on Path of Exile 2. It has been around since December 2024 but have not had any notable content before today.
I gravitate towards building tools for myself when gaming and focus on building sites that I would like to use, surfacing information that I need. An important part of exploring data and statistics is that is has to be fast and fun.
Today I can finally launch the first version of Builds, which lets you explore other players characters and find inspiration for your own build or your next character. I will also give you a quick intro to my new passive skill tree and Path of Building (PoE2) build upload hosting.
Builds
Path of Exile and Path of Exile 2 are games of complexity. Building a character offers up the choice between near-infinite combinations. This is the core of the game and the incredible depth is very satisfying when you manage to produce a killer combination that destroys the endgame. It offers a vast amount of replayability exploring all these options and ideas.
However, navigating the options and finding inspiration can sometimes be daunting. This is where Builds come in. At the core, it is simply a service that presents a UI for presenting statistics about popular combos and allowing you to slice and dice the data quickly to explore further.
The goal of the site is simply provide the information in a clean package: Whether you want to explore what is currently popular in the games meta, find out what other players are doing when playing something similar to your character or you want to scour the data for weird, wacky ideas that someone cooked up.
Builds is very similar to what you might know from poe.ninja. It consists of lists of classes, items, keystones other dimensions of data, each showing a percentage to indicate how many characters use this. Clicking any of these will filter by that item and further narrow your search. After you filter by an item, it will also have a button for excluding that item.

In addition to this, there is a passive skill tree heatmap, which shows the percentage of characters that have taken each and every node on the skill tree in a nice colorful way.

Finally the character table can only show so much data - so there is a Columns button which allows you to customize which data you want to see, filter and sort by.

The overview will mainly include characters that are still interesting to look at and will not update characters that have been stripped of their gear or after they die in hardcore leagues. This also means that the current character counts are a bit lower than they could have been. But that should improve with the next reset.
Every search in Builds will result in a list of characters. Clicking any of these will take you to a detailed view of that character. This view will show equipment, passives, skill gems and stats simulated through Path of Building.

Passive Skill Tree
The passive skill tree is a core part of Path of Exile 2 and a vital part of planning your character. When building poe.ninja for Path of Exile, I relied mostly on GGGs passive skill tree outside of my very basic version that was used in heatmap visualizations and showing characters.
For poe2.ninja I wanted to create a proper passive skill tree to make it easy for me to create visualizations, but also allow some more interactivity and deeper exploration on both desktop and mobile.

I am experimenting with a smart pathing system that will allow you to just select desired nodes and the tree will optimize your path, but it is currently not the default before the basic mode has proper support for weapon sets and attribute choices.

Path of Building (PoE2) upload hosting
Path of Building is a core tool for theorycrafting in Path of Exile and the team behind it is dedicated and awesome.
This site provides a upload hosting service for Path of Building, which allows you to upload codes to share Path of Building builds with others, either from within Path of Building by selecting poe2.ninja in Import/Export section or just pasting the code on the upload page. Once you have a poe2.ninja pob link, it can be either viewed as a web page to provide the details or imported directly in Path of Building.
